Description Logics in Data Management

چکیده
Description logics and reasoners, which are descendants of the kl-one language, have been studied in depth in Arti cial Intelligence. After a brief introduction, we survey in this paper their application to the problems of information management, using the framework of an abstract information server equipped with several operations | each involving one or more languages. Speci cally, we indicate how one can achieve enhanced access to data and knowledge by using descriptions in languages for schema design and integration, queries, answers, updates, rules, and constraints.

(Re) Making the Procrustean Bed? Standardization and Customization as Competing Logics in Healthcare
Recent years have witnessed a parallel and seemingly contradictory trend towards both the standardization and the customization of healthcare and medical treatment. Here, we explore what is meant by ‘standardization’ and ‘customization’ in healthcare settings and explore the implications of these changes for healthcare delivery. We frame the paradox of these divergent and opposing factors in te...
متن کاملIt Takes Two to Tango: Customization and Standardization as Colluding Logics in Healthcare; Comment on “(Re) Making the Procrustean Bed Standardization and Customization as Competing Logics in Healthcare”
The healthcare context is characterized with new developments, technologies, ideas and expectations that are continually reshaping the frontline of care delivery. Mannion and Exworthy identify two key factors driving this complexity, ‘standardization’ and ‘customization,’ and their apparent resulting paradox to be negotiated by healthcare professionals, managers and policy makers. However, whil...
متن کاملPersonalisation - An Emergent Institutional Logic in Healthcare?; Comment on “(Re) Making the Procrustean Bed? Standardization and Customization as Competing Logics in Healthcare”
This commentary on the recent think piece by Mannion and Exworthy reviews their core arguments, highlighting their suggestion that recent forces for personalization have emerged which may counterbalance the strong standardization wave which has been evident in many healthcare settings and systems over the last two decades. These forces for personalization can take very different forms. The comm...
متن کاملA Description Logics-Like Model for a Knowledge and Data Management System
Nowadays data management systems and knowledge management systems tend to converge. Our work is part of the OSIRIS data and knowledge management system. This system is centered on views which are said objectpreserving (i.e. they do not create new objects). Our work led to the construction of a model for the OSIRIS System inspired from those of Description Logics. In this model we have defined t...
متن کاملData Integration and User Modelling: An Approach Based on Topic Maps and Description Logics
In the framework of intelligent information systems design, we present an intelligent data integration and user profile modelling. Our approach uses jointly Topic Maps and Description Logics. Topic Maps are used to represent semantic of distributed data. Using the formalized semantic, the distributed data is merged into one repository. Then, Description Logics are used over this repository to c...
